Tuesday 23rd November saw Carshalton College as the host for the first ever Sutton Year 3 and 4 Sportshall Athletics Competition.
150 children came from 5 schools in the borough to take part; Westbourne, Foresters, Avenue, Culvers House and Stanley Park Primary Schools.
The Carshalton College students who were trained specifically for the event led the pupils through their first round of field events that included; Chest Push, Balance Challenge, Speed Bounce, Standing Long Jump, 5 Strides (which is the basics for Triple Jump) and the Foam Javelin.
After the pupils had finished all of their field events we moved on to the exciting track events. There were 5 events in the track competition with the boys and girls racing seperately. There were two heats for each race and overall positions were calculated by their individual running time. The events included; a 1 lap race, 2 lap race, 2 x 2 lap relay, hurdles relay and the 4 x 1 lap relay.
All the young leaders acted as lane judges, timers, recorders and officiated the results table.
Points for each school were calculated throughout the afternoon on how well the pupils jumped, balanced, thrown and raced!!
The final results were:
1st - Culvers House Primary - 178 points
2nd - Westbourne Primary - 176 points
3rd - Avenue Primary - 140 points
4th - Stanley Park Primary - 112 points
5th - Foresters Primary - 86 points
WELL DONE to everyone who too part, we had some great personal achievements throughout the afternoon. Thanks must go to Carshalton College and their excellent young leaders without whom the event couldn't take part.
