Overton Grange School played host to the launch of the new Sutton Sport Partnership Leadership Academy for 2012.
Each school in the partnership had the opportunity to choose 8 of their pupils to take part in the leadership academy. Throughout the year the chosen pupils will have the chance to take part in coaching courses including; Cricket, Football, Tag Rugby, Netball and much more!
This year the leadership academy was launched with MENCAP Awareness training. Pupils took part in 4 different activities including; Communication, Adapting sports, Boccia and New Age Kurling. The aim of the sessions were to gain a better understanding of disability sport and provide leaders with the skills to ensure sport sessions and coaching are fully inclusive.
7 schools took part on the evening including; Overton Grange, John Fisher, Greenshaw, Sutton High School for Girls, Carshalton High School for Girls, Wilsons and St Philomenas.
The sessions were fantastic and the leaders were excellent. I look forward to working with the leaders over the next few months in providing sporting opportunities for others in the Sutton area.
Thankyou to all who helped in the coordination of the evening training and to the MENCAP team for such valuable training.
